Background:
This guide is what I bring to be as best prepared and enjoy myself the most. Hopefully, so you aren’t having to go buy things all the time.
Anyone like me and enjoys new sports and going away for a weekend but never know what you actually need to bring with you? I got you and I will get right to the point.
This is my third ski trip; hence, I am still learning here. What I have learned so far is that it is a freaking very pricey sport to enjoy once or twice a year. But I love outdoor adventures, so I have been slowly buying the pricey gear over time. To help any newbie; I added suggested items, but you should get what you can afford. Look into affordable options, thrifting, consignment, waiting for sales, used gear sells, and etc.
My Gear Regrets:
More color! One thing I wish I did differently when buying these items was get more color. Most of these items I got are black. And this made it harder for my friends to find me. Just a thought.
1. Clothing:
Snow Pants
1 pair, you’re only there a weekend…that is only 2 days
Leggings or thermals
you will put those expensive snow pants over these
Thick socks
High socks because the boots are big
Smartwool Ski Full Cushion Over The Calf Socks – Women’s | REI Co-op)
Ski Gloves
I spent MONEY on these, but I have circulation issues.
Sports Bra
As required, if anything it can help trap in heat.
Pajamas
You plan to sleep right
Thermal top
You’ll want two of these…. assuming you sweat
Smartwool Classic Thermal Merino Crew Base Layer Top – Women’s | REI Co-op)
Hat
This might not be needed with a ski mask.
Shoes
You want shoes that you can walk to the slopes with or around outside after. Anything will do. I use my middle UGGs that I still have.
Ski Mask
Because my nose will run
Coat/Jack
You want an outer layer.
2. Bag:
I have skied with and without a bag. I am more comfortable without it, but I do need things and the bag allows me to take less breaks and be out on the slopes for longer.
Currently, I am just using a bag I already have, an old cycling hydration backpack. But I won’t be using the bladder because it will freeze.
Bag I would like to buy and have for snow sports: **you can get any color you want, which I learned having more colors is better in the snow for your friends to find you.
Things I like in my bag:
Water
We will work with you to create a personalized plan to help you achieve your financial goals.
Hand Warmers
You can put them in your gloves.

Snacks and food
If you run out of energy, you will want snacks so you don’t have to leave the slopes.
3. Water:
Bring some water but note that a camelback or other type of bladder will freeze so you will want a bottle that is ideally insulated or stays inside your backpack, where it is less likely to freeze.
Really bring any water bottle you have to stay hydrated, but this is an example of an insulated water bottle. Remember you will be carrying this weight.
(Hydro Flask Wide-Mouth Vacuum Water Bottle with Flex Cap – 40 fl. oz. | REI Co-op)
4. Food:
For real…what do you bring to eat.
Getting Food At Resort:
Getting food at the resort is always any option. It is the easiest option as well. You will be tired and cold, and it is a great chance to take a break and warm up. The food will be pricey though and depending on the group you are with, some don’t stop to eat.
Meal Tried Before:
Bagel Sandwich (avocado, seasoning, tomato, hummus), Wrap (any kind), Sandwich (PB and J).
Experimental Meal:
Miso Soup (in a thermal)
Snacks:
Date Balls, Nut Mix Bars, Fruit, Fruit Leather, etc.
Thoughts:
Truly though, bring snacks!! I honestly forget to eat and then I feel like I have no energy and I am struggling to stay warm or keep going. At least a snack will help you and is easy to eat on the lift rides. That being said, when I went cross country skiing for the first time, oh my god, we all got so snippy, and I remember saying to the group we need to a snack break. You just don’t even know that you need food sometimes.
5. Toiletries:
Toothbrush
Deodorant
Hairbrush
Face wash
Moisturizer
Hair Ties
6. Misc:
Cards
Boardgames
swimsuit (hot tub?)
handwarmers
ski gear (if you aren’t renting the gear)
phone charger
headphones
