Do Fabric Shavers Actually Improve the Look of your Clothes?

Product review of two fabric shavers to remove the peeling on clothes and make them last longer.

Overview:

Product:GleenerBeautral
Operation:ManualBattery Powered (2X AA) Electric Shaver
Price:$19.99$12.97
Pros:Less likely to put a hole in item. More control over the outcome with consistent peel layer. Loved the lent remover end. Easy to use and get peeling fabric off. If evenly shaved a cleaner finished look. Collects the material.
Cons:Pulls at the fabric and does not always have the cleanest look after. You have to constantly pull the material off the attachment as you are peeling. Can cause hole and/or inconsistent layer. The collect shavings can clog the shaver.
Recommendation:I think this product will last longer and I think with more material knowledge and better understanding on which attachment head to use could be an overall better product long term. But I struggled to get a clean finished look. I like that it is easy to use, provides a cleaner look (when there is an even shave layer), you are limited to the material type because of the shaving and the angles you can shave at. I do worry about it producing holes, but I think I would grab this one first if I were to use a fabric shaver.

Backstory:

I thrift a lot of clothes as well as buy new high-quality items. I want all of them to last and look as good as they can for as long as possible. Therefore, I wanted something to take peeling off clothing without damaging the clothes. I thought this would open up the items that I could thrift more. If I know I can fix them up I can buy pieces that would otherwise likely not sell but are perfectly good. Therefore, I began searching for the best item to do just that. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make a determination on which would be better to use the manual Gleener or the Electric Shaver Beautral, so I got both of them.

I saw these two products on amazon and next to no reviews that I thought were honest or what I really wanted to know.

That being said, my co-worker, who’s opinion and review I trust, suggested the Gleener to me. So, I was persuaded toward this product.

Product testing:

Photo Gallery 1: The before and after of the Gleener, manual shaver. It did work but I had to constantly clean off the attachment head in order to continue using it.

Photo Gallery 2: The before and after of the electric shaver. This was the easier product to use on this type of material. Although, I took care to not product a hole in the fabric.

Photo Gallery 3: Photo on the left is the Before and the photo on the right is the After.

This item I tested both products. The Gleener on the left and the Beautral on the right boarder around the armpits. They both did a good job, but it was easier to use the Gleener on this item.

Photo Gallery 4: To the left of the “G” is the Gleener and to the right is the result from the Beautral. Notice that the Gleener left the material. This was easily cleaned up.

The clean up after using both items was a bit different. The electric one you dump out the contains, it was all contained within the device. However, it was shaved so it was finer and when it got my other material I needed a lent roller to remove it. The manual resulted in more material removed but it was clumpy so it didn’t cause me any issue leaving it on another material then throwing it away.

Gleener:

The gleener comes with different attachments to use on a variety of different materials as well as one end having a lint collector.

This item is gentler on clothing, when you use the correct attachment for the material. Which they tell you in the product booklet provided with purchase.

Usage: manual

Age: 2 months

Handling: You must be careful with the amount of force you use as the attachment can come off.

Quality: This feel like it will last. The attachments come off easy.

Price: $19.99

Pros: I love the lent remover on this. Does not require batteries. Three different attachments to pick from. Won’t put any holes in clothing.

Cons: Pulls the material/fabric when using. Requires practice to use on different materials. Not sure I would grab this product first.

Recommendation: Depends! This product does remove peel but not 100%. It does make me nervous to use on nicer items because it pulls at the material. That being said, if you don’t want to worry about batteries and want more control over the peeling removal this is a good product. I can’t say it is perfect and does require effort to remove the peeling. If you have the patience for this then it is a longer-lasting product.

This is an experiment using the lent remover from my black jeans. It products good results.

Fabric Shaver (Beautral):

This is an electric clothing peeler. Now, in terms of use it is very easy. I enjoyed seeing the effortless shaving of the clothing.

Usage: electric

Age: 2 months

Handling: It works great at removing peeling. It does have different layers of height you can apply depending on the fabric. You need to be mindful of how much you press down on the clothing.

Quality: The product will stop working if the lent get jammed. Therefore, you must clean it frequently when using it. Especially with thicker material. But the product as a whole feel sturdy but I do question the longevity of this product.

Price: $12.97

Pros: It was very easy to use and on very noticeable peel, it was easier to use than the manual Gleener.

Cons: Concerns about putting holes in materials. I noticed on other clothing (not photographed) lines of where it cut better than in other places, AKA inconsistent shave. Needs batteries.

Recommendation: Again it depend! I would say I personally like this one more for bigger peeling materials. I used this product on a pair of leggings when I first purchased it and it worked amazing. I don’t worry about putting the material when using. Though, I would be mindful that you can have inconsistent shaving and can leave weird lines or create holes in the material. (would like to note that no holes were created in my fabrics).
